One of the most significant sporting events since Rugby World Cup 2011, the nationwide New Zealand Lions Series 2017 will feature two matches at Wellington's Westpac Stadium:

- The British & Irish Lions v Hurricanes (27 June 2017)
- The British & Irish Lions v All Blacks (1 July 2017)

The World of WearableArt®, known as WOW®, is a renowned international design competition that attracts hundreds of entries from all over the world. Finalists compete for over $165,000 in prize money plus internships with leading creative companies such as Weta Workshop.
Using the human body as a blank canvas designers create works of wearable art to be exhibited in the annual Awards Show. Designs are brought to life in this spectacular stage performance – a world where theatre, fashion and art collide. Held each year in September in New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington, this unique event draws an audience of over 55,000.

The World of WearableArt® competition has encouraged an explosion of creative activity, inspiring designers from a wide range of backgrounds including art, fashion, textile and industrial design, jewellery, architecture, law and home making, to name a few.

The range of garments produced for the event is simply breath taking, as the rules of competition mean that anything that is in any way wearable can find a place on stage, as long as it is original, beautifully designed and well-made.

WOW® gives entrants freedom of expression without the constraints of commercialism it encourages lateral, original thinking and provides the opportunity to be innovative and inventive.

Hutt City Crazyman

Williams Park

The Crazyman is one of NZ's longest running multisport events. Based around the icon outdoor elements of Wellington's Hutt City this 54k scenic tour showcases the hills, beaches, harbour and river that make our Capital the outdoor wonderland that it is.
Attracting around 400 entrants every year, participants enter as individuals or teams in either the full multisport format (13k Kayak, 28k Mountain Bike, 13k Trail Run) or as duathletes (mountain bike/run).

The Crazyman 2017 will be held on Sunday 7th May.

Wellington Sevens

Westpac Stadium

Part of the HSBC Sevens World Series, Wellington Sevens combines the excitement of an elite international sporting tournament with a festive atmosphere.
There's only one place where a group of super heroes can cheer on a Tongan winger throwing a no-look pass. HSBC Wellington Sevens will see 16 of the world's top rugby sevens nations split into four pools for two days of non-stop action.

The Wellington Sevens Event is usually held on the last weekend of January every year.

The jewel in Wellington Racing Club’s crown, Wellington Cup Day sees impeccably dressed crowds head to Trentham Racecourse to see the best horses in New Zealand compete for Wellington’s most prestigious horse racing trophy.
Catch the train to races and enjoy a fantastic event!

Held annually in January (usually closest Saturday to Wellington Anniversary Day).

New Zealand Festival


On even-numbered years, Wellington welcomes the world of art, performance and music for a fortnight of imagination and inspiration in the New Zealand Festival.
The 2018 New Zealand Festival will be held in Wellington 23rd February - 18th March.

Wellington’s hippest inner city street hosts a two-day festival of food, music and community. The CubaDupa street festival celebrates the vibrant, bohemian spirit of the world’s coolest little capital.
Held in March annually it is such a fun, interesting event to attend!


Wellington Waterfront

New Zealand music takes centre stage in on the Wellington waterfront for the Jim Beam Homegrown music festival.
A massive line up of artists play at the event and change out each year. Usually held in March/April - be sure to keep your eye out for next year's event.
